Suction Lick Mat

Something to do during the bath, so the bath stops being a fight.

The problem

Every difficult two minutes with a dog — bath, nail trim, brushing out a mat, waiting at the vet — is difficult because the dog has nothing to do except object.

The solution

Spread something sticky on the mat, press it to the shower wall or the floor, and your dog licks at it while you get on with the job. Licking is self-soothing for dogs; it lowers heart rate and gives them a task. The suction base keeps it in place while they push at it.

What to put on it

Whatever your dog already eats and you already trust. Wet food, plain yoghurt, or their normal food thinned slightly. Freezing it makes it last several times longer, which is the trick for nail trims.

Questions

Will it stay on the wall?
On a smooth, clean, wet surface, yes. It will not hold on grout lines, textured tiles or a dirty surface — wipe the spot first.

Is it a chew toy?
No. It is silicone and a determined chewer will destroy it. Put it away between sessions.

Which colour?
No difference except looks. The clear one is easiest to see through if you want to check how much is left.
